Next Week's Gothic Bellydance Lessons

Hi all!

Hope you are having an amazing Easter weekend and you are all well?

Ok, first up, a quick reminder that we are not at The Marlborough on Monday night because of a show going on in the theatre and one company that normally uses the theatre that night has to use the green room. However, I will still be teaching that night at my place which is next door to the venue, so if you want a lesson on Monday, please contact me for address details.

Same times, same prices - 1 hour £5/£4 concessions and 2 hours £8/£6 concession. Buzz up to flat 8 and I will let you in. Please let me know if you are coming ASAP.

Apart from that, here's what's happening on Wednesday's lessons:

Traditional - 7.30-8.30pm - After the success of the folk/African style bellydance last week, we're going to go to go down more of the fusion route and look at how we can incorporate fabulous Turkish movements into our routines and improvisation! Unlike Egyptian moves, these are not as grounded, but very light. Be prepared to be standing on your tip toes! It is extremely enjoyable! :-)

Please wear ballet/jazz/flat comfy shoes to the class.

Gothic - 9-10pm - We'll be looking more at the burlesque side of Gothic Bellydance - this time with a focus on working in high heels and with fans. Great for mystery, sexiness and tasteful teasing! ;-) A little section on corsetry will be touched upon as well if we have time.

When wearing heels, please wear ones that are secure for practice - such as ones with bars across. If you are not used to wearing heels, start off with 1-2 inch heels before going into 3 inches onwards.

Also please bring your own fans if you have them as mine are battered from previous classes!

One final note - we are currently having trouble with the floor at the Marlborough, so from now on, instead of having bare feet, can everyone wear either ballet/jazz/flat comfortable shoes to dance in.

That's all for now, happy easter and happy dancing!

Best wishes and brightest blessings,

Sascha xxx

Brighton Gothic Bellydance Weekly Drop in Lessons - Next Week's Lessons and Gothla!
For more details about Gothic Bellydance in Brighton, then check out the facebook group 'Brighton Gothic Bellydance!'

Hi all,

Hope your week has been good and that the current weather is not getting everyone down too much?

So, classes coming up next week:

Monday:

Traditional - 7.30-8.30pm @ The Green Room @ The Marlborough Regency Theatre (above the pub), 4 Princes Street, Brighton BN2 1RD.  We are looking in more depth at traditional veil work and going over some techniques to make your dance more slick and tight.

Gothic - 9-10pm @ the same place.  Will be looking at the Zaar trance dance (like the Wednesday class) as a starting point for the improvisational element of Gothic with some props - including veil and whip!  Solo, duo and group work will be included.

Wednesday:

Traditional - same place, same times.  Same as Monday with veils and technique.

Gothic - same place, same times.  We will be going into more detail about the whip element of Gothic Bellydance - more fiesty and sexy moves you can incorporate into the dance.  The lesson ends with a set routine with a hint of burlesque included to a Marilyn Manson track...If you have your own whip, please bring it along - if not, don't worry, I have some spares!  If you'd like to buy your own whip, then let me know as we can get some for £4 each!

Prices - 1 hour is £5/£4 concession and 2 hours is £8/£6 concession.

Gothla UK:

I am hoping to get a group of people together to go up to Leicester for the weekend of 17th-19th July for the only UK event to solely concentrate on Tribal and Gothic Bellydance - GOTHLA!  The website is http://www.gothla.co.uk/ if you want to have a look for more details.  Artists confirmed include Ariellah, Morganna, Akasha (aka Heike Humphreys) and Weird Sisters with more still being confirmed.  If you're interested in coming up with me to experience this event, then let me know - if we get a good amount of people interested, we should be able to get a good discount on hotels and entry.

Have a good week and hope to see you all soon!

Best wishes and brightest blessings,
Sascha xxx

Venue Update! Great News!!!
Hi all,

Here's the situation now with venues! It's amazing how much things change in 24 hours plus! Firstly, thank you so much to all who have given me fantastic suggestions for venues - it has been much appreciated!

I bumped into Gary on my search for premises yesterday to be informed that he has had a reprieve till beginning of October and that the 22nd and 29th September lessons are officially still on, not to worry, but he also said to watch this space as the future is still unknown... When I got home soon after that, I found an email from The Caroline of Brunswick with an offer I couldn't refuse and have arranged with them to run classes every Tuesday night for the same time as the marlborough lessons (8pm for an 8.15/8.30pm start till 10.30pm) from 7th October till 16th December. So all is well again and back on track! I cannot believe this has happened and am extremely excited about the developments that have occured. What a difference a day makes eh?!? :-)

Looking forward to dancing with all or most of you very soon!

Best wishes,

Sascha

Venue Change
Hi all,

Have just received some absolutely devatating news from Gary at the Marlborough which reads as thus:

Hi Sascha

I'm terribly sorry to tell you this at such short notice but as of next Monday, September 15th, I will no longer be managing The Marlborough.
This means that I am unable to keep the bookings of your classes as arranged.
I really am terribly sorry, and awfully disappointed, as I was looking forward to an artistic future for The Marlborough, and to your involvement in it. Sadly the Powers That Be have decided that they will make a better profit from the old clientelle than from the potential new one and are reverting the Marlborough to a lesbian bar. I am unsure what plans they have for the theatre, if any.
I hope you find an alternative venue for your classes, particularly as there was such interest in them, and I wish you all luck for the future.

Keep in touch - we never know what the future may hold, eh?

Gary
x

As you can imagine we are both devastated about what's happened, but don't worry, the classes are STILL going to happen! However I need to find a good, reasonably cheap price for a room to hire in a pub/church hall, in fact anything! So I am asking for your help - especially if you're in the Brighton/Hove area - NOT silly prices that are £50 per hour as the majority of places are. Please, if you know of anywhere, then get in touch with me ASAP!

Your help is much appreciated in this awful circumstance.

Sascha

London, post-Gothla UK
Sashi and I will be heading to London after Gothla UK (July 18th-2oth, http://www.gothla.co.uk/), so we'll be in the area the 21st through the 25th (when we're heading to Germany via Heathrow). We don't have any specific plans at the moment (besides some shopping in London and site-seeing), but would definitely like to network some more, and could be available to give workshops/private lessons/performances while we're there. Anyone interested, have info to share/places to recommend?

Thanks! :)

UK UNMATA Workshops and Charity Hafla

Hi everybody!

BellyNut Tribal Update:
The photos of the last UNMATA event (and of them being generally crazy) here in the UK are now up on the website!  It's taken a while because I've been re-doing many of the pages.  At the moment the UNMATA gallery is the only one working. You can view it here:

Don't forget they'll be back with us in just over TWO WEEKS!  The workshops are filling up, and it is your only chance to learn from master technique-freak Amy Sigil during their trip to the UK!  Don't miss their stunning epic performance, either!  Information here:

Bodhaia Tribal Update:
We are very excited to have been invited to perform at the much-talked about Purple Hafla next week! We will be performing a medley of improvisational tribal - fast and slow classic ATS, skirt, and sword.  Many other performers will be displaying a whole variety of styles. Come and show your support for Macmillan Cancer Relief at this hafla, being held for a fellow bellydancer who is still battling the disease.  Download the flyer here:

Many thanks!

Flamenco, Gothic Bellydance and Tarot Reading
Hi all!

Sascha Cooper here!  I would like to invite you all to my up and coming dance performance of Flamenco and Gothic Bellydancing at the Sanctuary Cafe in Hove on Friday 24th August 2007 at 8pm.  This is part of an alternative/fetish night called SUBSPACE which was launched at the beginning of last month which I participated in before.  It was so successful, they've asked me back!  This time though, to add a little normality to the proceedings, I'm doing flamenco as well as my gothic bellydance, so no need to be scared...We don't bite...really!  I'm also doing some tarot reading using both the Vampire and Gothic Tarot to keep in with the theme of the evening.

I'm inviting you because the event (as well as myself) needs support - it's the second outing, so we need to make it a fantastic night to remember.  There's comedy as well as unusual acts such as the Voodoo Twins and Miss World 1974 making an appearance.  And all for £5 entry too!!!

For more information, please visit the sanctuary cafe's website www.sanctuarycafe.co.uk

If you can come along, great!  If not, don't worry, there are more opportunities in the future.  Either way, please let me know so I have a rough idea who's coming.

Hope you are all well and enjoying the British Weather whilst it's still wonderful!
